Managing Secondary Infertility: Tips for Busy Mums

For busy Mums, dealing with secondary infertility can be an incredibly challenging experience. It can take a toll on their physical, emotional and mental health, adding to the stress of juggling multiple responsibilities. As a Chinese Medicine practitioner, I have seen this firsthand and understand how difficult it is for women going through this process. In this blog post, I will provide some tips from a Chinese medicine perspective that may help manage secondary infertility for busy mums.

1. What is Secondary Infertility

Infertility is a very real and often emotionally challenging experience for couples, especially when it comes to secondary infertility. Secondary infertility refers to the inability of couples who have had at least one successful pregnancy in the past, but now struggle with trying to conceive again. This can be an incredibly difficult situation for busy mums that are already overwhelmed with their daily responsibilities.

2. How to Manage Stress and Anxiety Related to Secondary Infertility

Stress can be a significant factor affecting secondary infertility; stress can impact a hormonal imbalance and impact the body's reproductive system's functioning. Incorporating relaxation techniques into your routine can help manage stress levels. Simple relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and meditation can also help. Why not try putting a meditation on when putting your child to sleep and teach them meditation and self regulation early?

3. Optimise Diet

The quality of our diet contributes immensely to our overall health, and fertility is no exception. I know this can be super difficult for busy mums, but try simply by adding more nuts and seeds to your diet. Then try to focus on consuming wholesome and nourishing meals, avoiding processed foods and added sugars.

4. Exercise Regularly

As busy mums, it’s understandable that you might find it challenging to engage in regular exercise activities. However, exercising regularly can help manage stress levels, allow better blood circulation, and improve muscle strength which then can support storing blood. Why not try a mums exercise class or even put a youtube class on.

My favourite is Yoga with Adriene's challenges. I dare you!

5. Blood and sperm tests

Have you and your partner been retested after having a baby?

When it comes to fertility, it is essential to understand the underlying cause of secondary infertility in order to know how to manage it. For this reason, blood and sperm tests can be a great tool for couples trying to conceive. They can help determine any underlying health conditions such as hormonal imbalances or other medical issues that could be impacting one's fertility.

Secondary infertility can be a difficult experience for busy mums, but with the right tools and strategies it is possible to manage. Incorporating relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation into your routine, optimising diet by adding more nuts and seeds, exercising regularly, and getting blood and sperm tests done are all key steps in managing secondary infertility.
